Today Huntsville Utilities and the city of Huntsville officially announces the kick-off of their Cold Water Wash Campaign.
Would you like to lower your electricity bill? If your answer is yes, wash your clothes in cold water. Using cold water for your laundry saves energy, which helps reduce your electricity bill. Ninety percent of the electricity used for a hot water wash is used to heat the water, costing up to ten times as much as one cold water wash load. Switching to cold water can save about $250.00 a year. Using cold water also reduces carbon emissions for a cleaner planet. Washing clothes in cold water is estimated to eliminate about 1,600 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions a year. You do not need a special detergent to clean your laundry in cold water. Cold water washes are better for the environment, saving money, energy, and helping clothes last longer. For more information visit www.hsvutil.org/learning-center/smart-consumer-tips/.
