Huntsville City Council appoints Dr. Dorothy W. Huston as newest Board Member to Huntsville Utilities’ Natural Gas & Waterworks Board
During the February 13, 2014 meeting of the Huntsville City Council, Dr. Dorothy W. Huston was appointed as the newest Board Member for Huntsville Utilities’ Natural Gas and Waterworks Boards, to fill the unexpired term of Mr. William M. Johnson who recently passed away on February 2, 2014 after nearly 24 years of service to the boards. The current term is set to expire on July 1, 2015.
Dorothy W. Huston, Ph.D. is President & CEO of Technology Management Training Group, Inc., a provider of information technology, management, and training solutions; headquartered in Huntsville, AL. Dr. Huston will be only the second woman to serve on these boards, following Mrs. L.O. Erwin, who served as Board Secretary and was President of the Textile Hardwood Manufacturing Company in Huntsville.
As a professional educational administrator, Dr. Huston has amassed over 30 years of experience in organizational change and leadership, program planning and execution, training and development, student development, research administration, fundraising, and educational program outreach. Dr. Huston is a graduate of LEADERSHIP Huntsville/Madison County, Inc., Class 12.
A native of Monroeville, Alabama, Dr. Huston earned her undergraduate degree at Alabama A&M University in 1979 and her Masters and Doctorate degrees from The Ohio State University in 1980 and 1983, respectively. She is a 2006 graduate of Harvard University’s School of Business Executive Development Institute. Further, Dr. Huston has earned additional certificates in the areas of student personnel administration, environmental safety, lean processes and executive leadership development.
At present, Dr. Dorothy W. Huston is the current Chair of the Board of Directors of the Redstone Federal Credit Union, where she is a certified Credit Union Director by the Credit Union Executives Society. In addition to this service to the greater Huntsville community, some of Dr. Huston’s other board affiliations include: Georgia Tech’s Research Institute External Advisory Board; Founder and President, Rosetta James Scholarship Foundation; North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence; former member, Randolph School Board of Trustees; former member, Oakwood University Community Development Center; former member, Burritt Memorial Committee; and former member, Volunteer Center of Huntsville/Madison County. Dr. Huston is a life-member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Dr. Huston is married to retired educational administrator, Bill Huston, Sr., and they are the parents of two adult sons and a daughter.
Huntsville Utilities is a publicly-owned, not-for-profit utility serving 174,000 electric; 90,000 water; and 49,000 natural gas customers in Madison County, Alabama.
