HUNTSVILLE UTILITIES NATURAL GAS STORAGE FORECASTER RANKED #1
Wednesday, April 13, 2016 – 2:20PM
Huntsville Utilities’ Senior Natural Gas Supply Coordinator, Donnie Sharp, is ranked #1 in natural gas storage forecasting according to April 2016 issue of Energy Metro Desk-Energy Publication. Participants include independent market analysts, national surveys, bank analysts and market indices. Sharp is the only participant in the gas forecasting survey who represents a municipality or utility. For the first quarter of 2016 Sharp was at the top of the list while also winning the End of Season Forecast Competition.
“Sharp’s ability to analyze market trends has played a major role in six gas usage rate decreases (the most recent in November 2015) since 2006 compared to only one increase. Sharp’s expertise directly impacts our ability to charge less for natural gas and save our customers money,” HU President/CEO Jay Stowe explained. “We have an industry recognized expert on our staff that utilizes his knowledge of gas purchasing and storage to maximize the benefit and minimize the impact of a volatile gas market on our rate payers, not just now but over an extended period of time.”
Despite the more unpredictable winter heating season in an unusual year in regards to weather, Sharp was able to come out on top by correctly realizing that mild weather would stay with us for the entire heating season when many of the other participants chose to adjust their forecasts. Sharp’s forecasting skills are a primary reason why Huntsville Utilities natural gas rates remain stable
