NEWS RELEASE
Electric Rates Lowered for October Bills
Huntsville Utilities electric customers will pay less for power during October thanks to a reduction in TVA energy costs.
For Huntsville Utilities, the residential electric rate for October is $0.08117 for the first 1400 kWh used and $0.08932 for all usage over 1400 kWh. These are the lowest rates HU residential customers have had this year.
HU customers who use 1400 kWh of electricity will pay $111.64 compared to $118.57 last month. This is just over a 4% reduction.
Huntsville Utilities’ customers pay for electricity at a rate well below the national average. According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration, the average national electric rate is over 12 cents per kWh ($0.1254).
Water rates for HU customers will increase slightly this month. Customers who use up to 3,000 gallons a month will see a one cent increase from $1.28 to $1.29 per 1,000 gallons of use. For use up to 6,000 gallons the rate increases a 2 cents from $1.64 to $1.66.
Huntsville Utilities is a publicly-owned, not-for-profit utility providing low-cost energy and water services.
