Average Daily Consumption - The average daily consumption is determined by taking the total natural gas consumption for one meter during the past 12 month billing cycle and dividing it by the number of days in the past 12
month billing cycle.
Maximum Daily Usage - This is the largest amount of natural gas consumed during any 24 hour period of the monthly billing cycle.
The maximum daily usage is determined one of three ways. 1) The usage is calculated from gas meters that are equipped with a chart recorder; 2) Determined by taking 1/20th of the total monthly consumption (normally for smaller customers); or 3) Read directly from electronic meters mounted on regular gas meters.
Interruptible Natural Gas Service - Huntsville Utilities offers interruptible natural gas service to larger commercial and industrial customers at a lower rate. In turn, Huntsville Utilities may call on these customers to
switch from natural gas to an alternative fuel supply during times of heavy natural gas demands.
Customers wanting interruptible natural gas service are required to install a stand-by fuel system that is capable of supplying their fuel requirements during interruption. These stand-by systems are usually propane or fuel oil. In addition, interruptible customers must sign a contract for natural gas service and meet the consumption requirements for interruptible service.
