New All-Time Record for Electric Use Set Again Today
August 8, 2007
For the second consecutive day, Huntsville Utilities' customers pushed electricity use to record levels.
At 5:00 p.m., the hourly peak demand for electricity reached 1,178 megawatts. Demand represents the amount of electricity flowing into the system at any given moment. 1,100 megawatts is the equivalent of having over 11 million 100-watt bulbs burning at the same time.
Today's record surpassed the record established yesterday by over ten megawatts. The record set Tuesday was 1,167.9 megawatts. The previous all-time record demand for electricity was established in January of 2003 at 1,144 megawatts.
