New All-Time Record for Electric Use Set Today
August 7, 2007
Huntsville Utilities' customers pushed electricity use to record levels today.
At 5:00 p.m., the hourly peak demand for electricity reached 1,167.9 megawatts. Demand represents the amount of electricity flowing into the system at any given moment. 1,100 megawatts is the equivalent of having over 11 million 100-watt bulbs burning at the same time.
The previous all-time record demand for electricity was established in January of 2003 at 1,144 megawatts. On Monday, the utility set a new summertime record at 1,140 megawatts.
