Records Broken for Electricity and Water Use

For the second consecutive day, Huntsville Utilities' customers pushed electricity use to record summertime levels.
At 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, the hourly peak demand for electricity reached 1,076 megawatts.
The previous summertime record demand for power by HU customers was 1,063 megawatts set on Wednesday. The all-time record demand for electricity was established in January of 2003 at 1,144 megawatts.
The HU Water System also established a new record daily demand on Thursday.
Over 71.6 million gallons of water were pumped from the Utilities' water plants and wells. The previous record demand for water was 67.6 million gallons set in August of 2000.
