How to Obtain Water Service

To obtain water service within the service area of Huntsville Utilities Water Department, which is generally limited to the city limits of the City of Huntsville, contact Huntsville Utilities Water Department at 535-1400 or e-mail wtreng@hsvutil.org or Huntsville Utilities Commercial and Industrial Services at 535-1317 or e-mail com_ind@hsvutil.org. The following preliminary information will be required:

1. Address of property

2. Location/Vicinity Map(if a proposed development or re-development)

3. Completed Customer Information Form detailing water requirements

4. Contact name and phone number

In most cases, particularly for new construction, before water service can be provided or cost estimates prepared, the following additional information must also be provided:

5. Site plan showing utility and easement details

6. Detailed landscaping plans for all areas where water service is proposed

7. Topographic map with clearly labeled elevations

8. Detailed plumbing plans(where applicable)

9. Reproducible(mylar) copy of Plat (for subdivision)

The Huntsville Utilities Water Department Engineering section will determine the availability of water service, the costs associated with the provision of water service and any special requirements which may apply. Such special requirements may include additional water facilities, easements, special agreements or contracts, annexation or other items, and any additional forms or contracts will be supplied to the Owner or his representatives by the Water Engineering section.

Increasing the Load at an Existing Water Service

If the load or demand at an existing water meter is to be increased, contact should be made with the Huntsville Utilities Water Department at 535-1400 or Huntsville Utilities Commercial and Industrial Services at 535-1317. Additional deposits, meters and service line installations may be required, depending upon the changes be made. The Commercial and Industrial Representative(535-1317) can answer questions concerning additional deposits once adequate information is provided to determine the additional water service requirements.

Relocating an Existing Meter

To have an existing water meter relocated, contact Huntsville Utilities Water Department at 535-1400. A fee will be charged based upon the extent of the work required, which will be determined by the engineering representative at Huntsville Utilities.
