Natural Gas Service
How to Obtain Natural Gas Service To obtain natural gas service, contact Huntsville Utilities Natural Gas Department at 535-1206 or e-mail gaseng@hsvutil.org or Huntsville Utilities Commercial and Industrial Services at 535-1317 or e-mail com_ind@hsvutil.org. The following information will be required before service can be made available. 1. Address of Property 2. BTU load of all appliances using natural gas 3. Site plan if a new building 4. Name of gas contractor 5. Exact meter location 6. Date service is needed Huntsville Utilities Gas Department does charge a fee for installing the gas service line. A representative from the Gas Department or the Commercial and Industrial Services can quote the appropriate charges. The fee will be required before installation of the service line. Only licensed gas contractors are to install customer piping. A permit from either the City of Huntsville Inspection Department or the Madison County Inspection Department is required before installation of customer piping by the licensed gas contractor. Types of Natural Gas Service Huntsville Utilities provides both Firm and Interruptible Service depending on the Natural Gas load. To qualify for Interruptible Service, the gas load must be greater than 50,000 cubic feet per day and the customer must have an alternate, standby fuel source that can be utilized during times of interruption. Questions concerning the types of Natural Gas services available should be directed to Huntsville Utilities Natural Gas Department at 535-1206.
Increasing the Gas Load on an Existing Commercial/Industrial Meter If the load on an existing commercial or industrial gas meter is increased, contact must be made with either the Huntsville Utilities Natural Gas Department at 535-1206 or Huntsville Utilities Commercial and Industrial Services at 535-1317. If gas service is requested for an existing commercial or industrial account or if additional load is being added to an existing meter, Huntsville Utilities may require additional deposits. The Commercial and Industrial Representative(535-1317) can answer questions concerning additional deposits. The representative will need to know the address, existing gas load and the proposed gas load. It is important the Natural Gas Department is aware of load changes as increases may surpass the existing meter capacity. Relocating an Existing Meter To have a natural gas meter relocated, contact Huntsville Utilities Natural Gas Department at 535-1206. Huntsville Utilities Gas Department does charge a fee for relocating a gas meter. A representative from the gas department will determine what charges are involved. |
